Addis Ababa: July 14, 2015 (FBC) – Ethiopia has the potential to attract 20 million tourists over the coming 10 years if it consolidates the ongoing tourism development efforts, the European Council on Trade and Tourism (ECTT) said.

Members of the Council have recently visited the Axum Obelisk, Fasiladas Castle and the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela.

President of the Council, Prof. Dr. Anton Caragea, said Ethiopia deserves the recognition conferred on it as the best tourist destination. It is a special country which possesses all things.

“You should promote your country to the international community to erase the drought and famine image that some media posted on your country in the past. If this happens, Ethiopia can raise its number of visitors to 20 million over the coming 10 years,” he said.

According to Prof. Dr. Caragea Ethiopia should use the recognition given by the Council as a means to increase tourist inflow and build its image.

European Council on Trade and Tourism (ECTT) gave recognition to Ethiopia as the number one World Best Tourist Destination last week.
