Ethiopia determined to encourage Ethio-Canada’s Strategic Partnership says Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros (Jul 02, 2015)

Foreign Minister Dr Tedros Adhanom pledged on Wednesday (July 1) that Ethiopia was determined to make every effort to ensure the success of Ethio-Canada Strategic Partnership. The Foreign Minister,  speaking on the occasion of  Canada Day and the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Ethiopia-Canada diplomatic relations, said both countries sharing much in common and had a great deal to offer each other.

The Foreign Minister, expressing his best wishes and congratulations to the people and Government of Canada on their national day, noted that the bilateral ties of the two countries had shown mutual assistance and genuine respect over half a century. Dr Tedros highlighted the regular and successful visits made by the officials of both countries, the progress made in Ethiopia, the mutual interest in further development of bilateral relations by both sides and the contribution of Canadian nationals to Ethiopia’s development.

He also stressed the importance of Canadian companies to participate in Ethiopia’s vision for the realization of a carbon-free green economy and to become a middle income country by 2025. Ambassador David Usher, Canada’s Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Republic of Djibouti and the African Union, also underlined that Ethiopia and Canada shared a great deal including a multiplicity of cultures and religions and a federal structure of government. They were also both key players in the fight against terrorism. Ambassador Usher said both countries were keen to deepen their commercial relations and expand trade and investment.
