Following the visit of the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Yves Rossier to Ethiopia, the 2nd Ethio-Swiss Bilateral Political Consultation was held here in Addis Ababa, on Monday (Sept. 06, 2016), where in the two sides signed Air Service Agreement.
Discussions also covered trade and investment, humanitarian and development cooperation, migration and other bilateral and multilateral issues.
With the signing of Air Service Agreement, one that allows direct flight to and from Switzerland, the occasion marked a renewed partnership between the two countries. The consultation also dealt with materialization of already signed agreements and identified new areas of cooperation.
While noting the historic and current cordial relations between the two countries, State Minister Ambassador Taye Atske-selassie said, "Switzerland is a significant partner not only to Ethiopia but also the Region and Africa at large".
Recalling the contribution of Swiss constitutional experts in drafting the current FDRE constitution and the continued experience sharing between the two countries in areas of governance, Ambassador Taye said, "In our effort to grow Politically, Switzerland was one of our models".
Mr. Yves Rossier on his part said "Ethiopia is a key partner to Switzerland due to the country's weight, willingness and engagement and in multilateral issues."
Mr. Rossier also emphasized the need to deepen cooperation and expand the political consultation to make sure that multi-sectoral involvement is maximized in due course.
