Ethiopia to host East African Astronomical Society Conference

Expert at the Research Centre, Dr. Tulu Beshah said that the four-day workshop will begin on June 29, 2015 in Addis Ababa.

The conference will enable African countries to exchange experiences in astronomy and space science and would especially help East African countries to improve astronomy education in their respective institutions.

The purpose of the conference which will be held under the motto “astronomy for better life of the society” is to build the capacity of the continent in areas of space science, astrophysics and space research.

Dr. Tulu, who said senior astrophysics and astronomy experts will present research works at the conference, added that young scientists and engineers will have the chance to share the existing knowledge in the field.

Since this international conference is meant to inspire the youth, students from secondary schools would also be invited, he pointed out.

In addition to the conference, there will be a workshop on the solar system and planets far beyond the sun, it was indicated.

Astronomers from Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda and South Africa, and researchers from France will take part in the conference.

The conference is organized by Entoto Observatory and Research Centre, East African Regional Office of Astronomy for Development (ROAD), Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education.
