Ethiopian Airlines to fly direct to Philippines

Article from the Philippine Star:

July 2015

Philippines – Africa’s largest airline is set to launch its maiden direct flight to the Philippines later this week.  Ethiopian Airlines said the first direct flight is scheduled on July 9.

The flight is expected to open various opportunities for both the Philippines and Ethiopia, particularly in terms of tourism, business and commerce.  Last year, the Philippines and Ethiopia entered into an air services agreement.

The deal allows seven flights per week between Manila and Ethiopia and unlimited flights between Ethiopia and other airports in the Philippines except the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The agreement also allows intermediate stops in Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, India and the Middle East.  The air services deal with the Philippines was initiated by Ethiopia amid its interest to expand in Asia.  Ethiopia is the aviation hub in North East Africa, serving as transit point for passengers from other African countries and the Middle East.  Founded in 1945, Ethiopian Airlines is the flag carrier of Ethiopia and the fastest growing airline in Africa.  It serves 81 international destinations and operates the newest fleets in Africa.  At present, Ethiopian Airlines has flights to Bangkok, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo in the East Asian and Southeast Asian regions.  Read more on Philippine Star.
