Addis Ababa May 11/2017 The Ethiopian Diaspora living in Dubai have pledged to further consolidate their support for the construction of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
As part of the pledge, they have donated an automobile after the aftermath of the 6th anniversary of the launching of the dam.
The car will be used to raise fund for the construction of Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, it was learned.
The National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on Construction of Grand Renaissance Dam received the key for the vehicle.
Ethiopians and foreigners of Ethiopian origin living in different parts of the world have reportedly vowed to continue contributing to the construction of the dam by extending financial and other forms of support, including the purchase of GERD bonds.
Director-General of the Ethiopian Consul at Dubai, Yibeltal Aemiro said the Ethiopian diaspora living in Dubai and environs has bought bonds worth 152,000 USD in connection with 6th anniversary of the launching of the dam.
To date, they have bought 6.7 million USD worth bonds, he added.
Owner of the Al-Habesha Restaurant in Dubai, Sara Aradi said she has bought 250,000 USD worth GERD bond.
The businessperson said she will continue to provide support for the finalization of the dam.
Currently, 57 percent of the construction of the dam that will generate 6,450 megawatt is completed.
