Ethiopian Tourism Seminar strengthens Indo-Ethiopia tourist relations

An Ethiopian Tourism Promotion Seminar, hosted by the Ethiopia Consulate General Office in association with Ethiopian Airlines Office in Mumbai was at the Leela Hotel in Mumbai on Friday last week (June 26). The aim of the seminar was to create awareness of the tourism potential and opportunities of Ethiopia and nearly fifty tour operators and tourism media professionals attended.

Ethiopia’s Consul General in Mumbai, Mesfin Gebremariam, told the seminar that strengthening tourism ties between the two countries was a primary purpose of his office. He noted that Ethiopia, along with Morocco, was home to nine UNESCO World Heritage sites, the largest number in Africa. It was unique in having historic places, natural attractions, archaeological sites, and magnificent scenery as well as a variety of cultural and religious festivals, all with appeal to Indians.

He pointed out that the world’s largest publishers of travel books, the Lonely Planet and Rough Guides Publications, have listed Ethiopia as one of world’s Best Value-Destination for 2015. Ethiopian Airlines’ Regional Director for Asia, Tadesse Tilahun, gave details of the Ethiopian Holiday Packages for Indian Tour operators and explained some of the tourist attractions of Ethiopia. He suggested Indian tour operators should take advantage of Ethiopia’s touristic attractions and incorporate them into their tour packages.

The seminar emphasized that the Consulate General and Ethiopian Airlines Offices would facilitate links with Ethiopian tour operators and assist Indian Tour Operators in any e way to increase tourism ties between the two countries.
