Addis Ababa, September 13, 2017 (FBC) –The federal government is working to resolve the boundary dispute occurred between Oromia and Ethiopian Somali regional states, said Government Communication Affairs Office (GCAO).
The conflict which occurred yesterday while the government has been resolving the dispute caused loss of life and property damage, said Dr Negeri Lencho, Minister of Government Communication Affairs Office.
The federal government, together with leaderships of both regional states, is striving to resolve the problem, he said, adding the national defense forces deployed in the area have been carrying out disarmament measures.
Dr Negeri further said the federal government has been investigating and arresting those groups who carried out the attack on the residents.
The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission also deployed a team to investigate human rights violations in the area, he said.
According to Dr Negeri, about 600 people from both regional states, namely from Jigjiga and Aweday areas, were displaced by the conflict. They are being given support in Harar town.
