Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom meets India’s Minister of State for Textiles (Jul 09, 2015)

Foreign Minister, Dr. Tedros met with Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, the Indian Minister of State for Textiles on Wednesday, July 8.

Discussions covered the long standing bilateral cooperation between the two countries as well as investment links. Dr Tedros noted Ethiopia and India have strong government-to-government and people-to-people relations and mentioned the existing cooperation in education.

Dr. Tedros noted India was Ethiopia’s fourth largest partner in terms of trade and investment in Ethiopia. He said the two countries could do more in extending investment cooperation and underlined Ethiopian keenness to learn from India’s experience in the textile industry and benefit from investment in other sectors.

Mr. Gangwar emphasized the long standing and historic relationship between Ethiopia and India and appreciated Ethiopia’s sustainable growth, especially in developmental infrastructure. He said Ethiopia’s growth development was an example for other African countries.

He also acknowledged Ethiopia’s efforts in bringing peace and stability to the region and to Africa. Mr. Gangwar noted that India was keen to engage in the textile industry in Ethiopia as well as to cooperate in providing training for the sector.

He also delivered a letter of invitation from the Prime Minister of India to Dr. Tedros to participate in the next India- Africa Forum (IAFS-III) to be held later this year in New Delhi. Dr. Tedros thanked Mr. Gangwar for the invitation to the Forum which he said will strengthen the Afro- India cooperation in many different developmental fields.
