Addis Ababa, December 14, 2016 (FBC) - The newly appointed French Ambassador to Ethiopia, Frederic Bontems has affirmed his government's commitment to enhance the all-round ties with Ethiopia.
France is willing to strengthen economic, social and people to people ties with Ethiopia, said Ambassador Bontems during talks with officials of the Dire Dawa city administration.
The visit to the city was the first working visit for the Ambassador outside the capital.
The Ambassador led a French delegation to the city administration where they discussed ways of enhancing relations, including establishing close partnership between the French city of Villeurbanne and Dire Dawa city.
He pledged to further strengthen the longstanding Ethio-France relation which also enjoys a historical linkage to the Ethio-Djibouti railway line.
The French delegation also visited the former Ethio-Djibouti rail Transport Workshop and the National Cement Factory in the city which employed over a thousand people.
According to Ibrahim Osman, Mayor of the city, the visit by the French Ambassador and his delegation helps elevate the relation between both countries in the various fields.
He mentioned the various French assisted infrastructural projects including technical and vocational centers, education as well as the Ethio-Djibouti railway.
The visit will also pave way for French investors to engage in investment activities in the city once the Dire Dawa industrial zone goes operational, the Mayor said.
