The legendary Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebre-Selassie will end his competitive athletics career at the 15th edition of the Great Ethiopian Run (GER) International 10km race that is set to take place on Sunday 22 November 2015, in Addis Ababa.
Online registration for Individual International participants for 2015 Great Ethiopian Run opened last week but local registration opened yesterday, Monday 29 June 2015. Registration fee for the 2015 is 150 birr. It includes race pack with the official race t-shirt which should be worn on race day and an invitation to the pasta party dinner at official race hotel on Saturday 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Participants will surely get an opportunity to run along with the great Ethiopian athletics legend Haile Gebre-Selassie. Group participants get registration fee reduction.
Haile was the title winner of the first great Ethiopian race that began 15 years ago. At that time the participants were 10,000 people but for 2015 the participants are expected to be over four fold. Will he succeed in taking title in his last competitive race? That will be seen five months from now. But in the press conference organized in connection to the 15th GER launching ceremony Haile said that he will try to make his final competitive race colourful. Haile officially announced his international competitive race retirement during the Manchester City road race in which he finished 16th. In his last race many expected he would make impressive result but to no avail.
Haile’s goodbye ceremony is expected to be exciting and thrilling. He is a great athlete who registered magnificent achievements both to his country and himself in the last 20 years. He won two Olympic gold medals of which the Sydney one was extremely thrilling and exciting. He won that gold with spectacular finish at the last gasp.
Haile has remained the symbol of success across the country since then. The national athletics fans are expected to give him a warm farewell party in November.

Of the 40,000 registered, a total of 36,000 participants finished the race and collected their medals for finishing the 10km race.
