Addis Ababa, June 18, 2016 (FBC) –The Ministry of Education (MoE) today announced the special benefits introduced to improve the livelihoods of Ethiopian teachers.
Education Minister, Shiferaw Shigute, made the announcement at an event organized to award teachers in Addis Ababa for their outstanding achievement.
Among the special benefits include adjustment in revenue and provision of residential units for teachers.
Hence, as of July 8, 2016, the salary scale for teachers begins from level 10, which was level 2 in the past.
Moreover, residential units were built for 5,000 teachers living in Addis Ababa. The construction of 19,000 houses is also underway, he said.
Teachers in other parts of the country, in rural areas in particular, will get land easily to build houses.The government will also build and give them residential units, he said.
Some 128 teachers drawn from all sub-cities of Addis Ababa were awarded at a ceremony held at the African Union Headquarters in the presence of senior government officials and invited guests.
