Qatar Airways, one of five international airlines serving Eritrea, announced this week that it is suspending its flights between Doha and Asmara from December 4, because of what it called "operational requirements". The suspension will continue until further notice. The airline said its Asmara office would remain open until the end of February next year to provide support and alternative travel options to those who had booked flights after December 3. It would offer full refunds for any unused or cancelled tickets. Qatar Airways' last flight will depart from Asmara on Saturday, December 3. Qatar Airways started its twice weekly flights to Asmara on December 4, 2014, a few months after launching flights to Djibouti in March 2014.
